This is a delightful piece of history, an antique French opaline crystal glass trinket box, dated to mid - late 19th century. Hand blown of blue opaline glass, the stem is held in place by plaster of Paris. It is set into gilded bronze, could be brass mounts, with delightful flowers on three feet and lovely three opaline glass jewels/beads dangling on sides. This box looks great on display; vanity desk (powder jar) or on bedside table (jewelry at high), any part it plays it will delight you with the beauty and charm of an old time. The top of the box embellished with hand painted bird and flowers in impasto enamel, done in the Mary Gregory style. This box is hinged; has 'S' shaped clasp.
It stands shy 5" (12.7 cm) high, 5" (12.7 cm) in diameter at the opening.
Condition very good to excellent, with no chips, cracks or repair. The 'S' shaped clasp securely tight, the hinge works properly. The frame slightly banded inside near the hinge, but sits securely tight. Inside bottom there is milky white spot, believe it is from manufacture.
