This is a very early set of Polish dolls. They have Terra Cotta heads and firm cloth bodies that seem to be on wire armatures and the most amazing handmade costumes! The gent has a perfectly rendered fully lined frock type coat and striped pants, little german silver buttons on his belt and lots a fine silk tassels . The wondrous details of this costume are too numerous to mention, the more you look the more you see! Little glass bead buttons on his shirt and many details like this on each layer of his costume and an amazing hat! So much amazing hand sewing...
The ladies dress is all hand painted! All of the silk ribbons on both dolls are also hand painted with flowers. She has a head piece that consists of more than 40 tiny handmade silk flowers all with tiny glass bead centers!! A fully lined velvet bodice decorated with metallic trim and glass beads. Tiny details beyond what I've ever seen in dolls like this..
This costuming was popular in Polish doll making (Krakow Festival Wear) and the Kimport doll company continued to carry the "dancing couple" is this sort of dress until at least the 1950s. But these dolls are from Way before that time, and the quality is miles beyond what the kimport dolls were. The preponderance of little details on these dolls will amaze and delight you! They are certainly from before 1930.. and could date back to the turn of the century.
Many of the fine Polish doll makers were lost in the war.. And dolls like this were never seen after, the greatest doll makers were lost.. .. This is the finest set of regionally dressed dolls I've ever seen.
they measure 12'' high.
